These Expectations are designed with the goal of helping our TEAM achieve the highest level of success.
1. In order to succeed as an individual and as a team, a player needs to be physically and mentally prepared to perform.
Preparation to be successful this season began during Strength and Conditioning training sessions and our Skill development and installations this past summer. These training sessions were extremely important to our level of preparation for this season. The player's level of commitment to that preparation will be revealed this season.
In order to achieve a high level of preparation once Football practice starts, attendance and participation at practice is extremely important. Once games begin, our team has 4-5 practices that lead up to the each game. Each of those practices is important in preparing each of our players for Friday night. We seek to put healthy and prepared players on the field on Friday night. If you miss practice for any reason, this could affect your playing time.
a) Circumstances will be reviewed on an individual basis.
2. Being on time and ready to practice is also part of being disciplined in preparing to be successful as an individual and as a team. If you are late to practice or lifting, you will roll the length of the football field. This policy compounds as well (late twice, two rolls, three times, three rolls etc.)
a) Tardiness will not be tolerated. If there is a reason that requires you to be late, it is the player's responsibility to notify a coach before that meeting or practice.
3. We value each and every player on our Sailor team. We will do our best to communicate in ways that will positively instruct, reinforce key points and motivate each of our players. We need our players to be coachable in order for this communication to succeed. If a coach gives you a coaching point, or tells you (corrects you) to do a technique/fundamental a different, or certain way, respond by saying “yes sir”, “okay”, or with a non-verbal sign that lets the coach know that you understand the expectation.
a) If you have a question, that would be a great time to ask. NO EXCUSES, NO “BUT I THOUGHT..” In order for players and coaches to succeed together, we each have to do our jobs to the best of our ability. The player needs to be coachable & accept coaching. Remember, CORRECTION IS NOT CRITICISM.
4. We will travel together as a TEAM. We arrive as a team, and we depart as a team. Everyone will ride the bus to and from all games.
5. We take the health and preparation of our players in practice very seriously. The athletic trainer will determine whether or not you are able to practice.
a) If you went and saw a physician for an injury they would also be able to determine your availability for practice.
b) If you are injured, the expectation is that you still attend practice.
c) Any player who is injured and not participating in practice will spend part of practice (as determined by coaches and trainer) performing physical activity and part of practice getting ‘mental reps’ by analyzing practice.
6. Practice Discipline and Integrity daily in all items both large and small.
a) Have a lock for your locker the first day of practice. If your equipment is not locked up at night, you will have the choice of running the rim, hills, or rolling.
b) Clean up after yourself before you go home at night. Do not leave equipment/clothes/trash on the floor for someone else to pick up.
c) Treat your teammates, coaches, and yourself with respect.
